This handsome Eastern Phoebe, a flycatcher of noted aerobatics, paused long enough to strike a pose among the blossoms of a Red Maple along the wetland edge of the Katan-Ensor Preserve.
Between the high sun and me this silhouetted Turkey Vulture soared close overhead with wingtips flaring; a striking sight seen mid-field at the Katan-Ensor Preserve.
As I scanned the tree tops from the Look Out on Granby Land Trust’s Katan-Ensor Preserve, a North American Porcupine was staring at me from high above. Although the early afternoon light was difficult to work with, if you look closely the photos capture most of its facial features, especially its eyes and nose, as well as its tongue sticking out.
Bring your binoculars to enhance your visit observing the wildlife at Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve. Here’s a photo of Wood Ducks feeding at the western end of Creamer Pond.

When trying to find more elusive birds to photograph, it’s always a joy to have a friendly Black-capped Chickadee land close by to provide encouragement. GLT’s Seth & Lucy Holcombe Preserve, North Granby CT.
